There are a number of cloud computing providers, but the big 3 are:
AWS – Amazon Web Services
We will start with AWS because there is a close match between AWS Lightsail and the delivery of the JSGo-Literacy solution we have built and JSGo uses AWS.
Great YouTuber for understanding AWS – This woman does a great job of creating explainer and tutorial videos especially for AWS (and cloud computing in general).
Her “Explain Cloud Computing to Grandma” video is awesome.
AWS overview is an overview of all of the complexity. That page is a showcase that features new stuff. Avoid that and click on the Products and Solutions tabs at the top. A brief browse of those page gives you the idea. Don’t focus too much on the details, just get the idea of how powerful it is as a whole.
I have an AWS account, so I have been exploring it. I would like a couple of the more advanced members of our team to start exploring it so they can introduce it appropriately to the rest of you. When those individuals come forward, I can get them access to my account (with specific instructions).
Like all of these providers AWS as a whole is extremely complicated. But, I believe I have found a narrow slice that is specifically built to make this job quicker, easier, and cheaper: Lightsail
To learn the advantages and simplicity of Lightsail read the “What is Amazon Lightsail“, but just read the main article for now. There are other links there for further exploration. Avoid those for now, but remember that it is there.
Azure – Microsoft Azure
I also have an Azure account for the purpose of getting familiar with it if we get an opportunity to participate in the Guidance LMS system testing.
Google Cloud – Google Cloud
